Grace Lin Runs for Congress at 24 Years Old

New York, NY, October 29, 2008 - At 24 years old, Grace Lin is running for Congress in the 8th District of New York. If elected, Grace will be the youngest in history to serve a full term in the US House of Representatives. Grace will be 24 on the day of election and 25 upon swearing in per the US Constitution. The only members of Congress to be elected at a younger age were William Charles Cole Claiborne of Tennessee at 22 years old in 1797 and John Young Brown of Kentucky at 24 years old when elected in 1849.

This is Grace's second run for elected office. Grace first ran for elected office in Chicago, IL at the age of 19 and won her a seat as Committeeman of the 20th Ward in 3 way race at the age of 20. She was the youngest in Chicago history elected to the post and earned the title of the Honorable Grace Lin. During her time as a Committeeman she appointed election judges, voted for party leadership, and ran candidates for State Senate.

In New York, following a rigorous screening process she became the endorsed candidate by the Republican, Conservative, and Independence Parties. She got on the ballot after petitioning and talking to hundreds of constituents. Grace is running against Jerrold Nadler a 16 year incumbent who is more than twice her age in the November 4, 2008 election. Grace believes competitive elections are important in America's two-party system to in preserve accountability of elected officials to their constituents.

Grace aims to restore fiscal responsibility, invest in alternative energies, repeal ethanol subsidies, work on portability of health
insurance, and focus on education reform. She is a listener and strives to find solutions to the problems in New York and the United States. For more information on the issues visit www.graceforcongress.com/issues.php.
