(eTradeWire.Org)MINNEAPOLIS — Tim Fleming, president of RJF Agencies, has been named to a three-year term on the Board of Directors of The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers (CIAB), the premier trade association representing leading domestic and international commercial insurance agents and brokers.

Over the past twenty years, Fleming has built RJF Agencies with Bill Jeatran, CEO of RJF, to become a prominent and well-respected insurance and risk management broker in the Midwest. Fleming has been involved with the CIAB for the past three years, during which time he has built close ties with leaders across the industry. His strong relationships with insurance carrier executives will aid him as he works to further the industry’s interests as a CIAB board member.

“I am excited to join the Council Board and its Government Affairs committee. In order to raise awareness of our clients’ issues and concerns, I will further develop relationships with insurance carriers and others throughout the industry and government,” Fleming said.

Fleming holds the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) and Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) designations. He currently serves on the Advisory Board for St. John Vianney College Seminary, the undergraduate seminar at St. Thomas University; and local Orono, Minn., football, hockey and baseball youth sports boards.

Ken A. Crerar, president of CIAB, praised Fleming for taking an active leadership role in the commercial insurance industry.

“The Council depends on our board members for advice and guidance on everything from new initiatives that are needed to respond to changing market conditions to strategy regarding our legislative positions on issues that affect commercial agents and brokers. We look forward to working with Tim Fleming in the months and years ahead, and I am sure our association will be a productive one,” Crerar said.

The board works in concert with the top officers of The Council. During 2009, Markham R. McKnight, president of BancorpSouth Insurance Services, Inc., will be the chairman of The Council.

Other Council officers include Vice Chairman H. Wade Reece, president of BB&T Insurance Services of Raleigh, N.C.; Treasurer James R. Pender, honorary chairman of the board of Oswald Companies in Cleveland, Ohio, and chairman emeritus of Oswald, Trippe & Company in Florida; and Secretary David E. McGurn Jr., president of special marketing and international division, Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., Itasca, Ill.

The Council of Insurance Agents & Brokers represents the leading domestic and international insurance agents and brokers who annually place 80 percent of the commercial property/casualty premiums and administer billions of dollars in employee benefits accounts in the United States.
