The recession has changed the way that seekers look for employment in a competitive job market. Gone are the days of relying solely on emails, internet job search websites and local career fairs.

With a national unemployment rate holding steady at 10%, and higher locally, one Jacksonville-based organization and a well-known business at the Jacksonville Landing are teaming up to end unemployment. “Who you know is the key to finding a new job” says Carlos Gil of JobsDirectUSA. Gil is the brainchild behind the ‘Pink Slip Party’ which he brought to the area last April after losing his own job.

What originally started on Wall Street after the stock market collapse, the job networking ‘party’, which Gil calls “Speed Dating for Jobs”, unites educated, mid-level job seekers looking for white collar jobs with recruiters of local hiring companies – in a bar.

In April, Gil and the Twisted Martini downtown hosted the first-ever event which attracted over two hundred job seeking professionals with dozens of hiring companies. The event helped many that attended land interviews and some jobs.

“Less intimidating than standing in line in hopes of catching a busy recruiter’s attention at tables full of resume-wielding students and more powerful than a blind email, Speed Dating for Jobs is one way of landing a partner – that pays” says AOL Jobs.

The Twisted Martini and JobsDirectUSA will host Jacksonville’s next Pink Slip Party on Wednesday February 10th from 5 pm – 8 pm, and is free to attend. All hiring companies and staffing firms in the area are encouraged to participate. Already confirmed for next Wednesday’s event are: CSX, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Kelly Services and Palm Coast Data just to name a few. Twisted Martini and JobsDirectUSA will continue to host the free job networking mixers on a monthly basis going forward, the second Wednesday of every month.
