Over 25 severely injured veterans and their families will attend this year’s Gala. They are either already living in their specially adapted home or will soon be.
“Our mission is to build specially adapted homes for severely injured veterans that have returned from combat severely injured,” says Homes for Our Troops founder John Gonsalves. “Our gala is a chance for everyone to take a moment to celebrate a job well done; to have some fun and reflect on all that we have accomplished in the past year. And to rededicate ourselves to our mission in service to those that have given so much for their country and have asked for so little in return,” Gonsalves added. Oliver North, a combat decorated Marine, number one best selling author, syndicated columnist and host of “War Stories” on the Fox News Channel will be the keynote speaker. North served 22 years as a U.S. Marine and was awarded the Silver Star, the Bronze Star for Valor, and two Purple Hearts for wounds in combat. North is also the founder of Freedom Alliance, a foundation that provides scholarships for the sons and daughters of service members killed in action. Homes for Our Troops injured veteran Army SGT Travis Wood will also address attendees at this year’s gala. On January 15, 2007, Wood sustained multiple severe injuries in Afghanistan after three anti-tank mines exploded under his truck trapping him inside. He endured 87 surgeries to repair his injuries. Other activities at the gala include a silent auction, dinner and dancing. All proceeds raised will help Homes for Our Troops continue its mission to build barrier free homes for returning severely injured veterans. John Gonsalves Homes for Our Troops founder extends an invitation to anyone interested in attending this year’s Gala to meet over 25 of the injured veterans that will be attending and to personally thank them for their service and sacrifice.
